Note from the Principal-Nov. 2026

Note from the Principal-Nov. 2026

Parents & Guardians,

I hope everyone had a Happy Halloween! Thanksgiving is fast approaching, and it is a time when I reflect on the many blessings I have both personally and professionally. I am fortunate to serve such a great school community at 1R, including our students, staff, and parents. Thank you for entrusting us with your children each day. We continue to have an exceptional year at 1R! Here are a few reminders and happenings for November.

No School & Viking Activities

There will be NO SCHOOL for students this Wednesday, November 4, and Friday, November 6.

If you have an opportunity, please go support the Lady Vikings at the state volleyball tournament Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. as they take on Omaha Skutt!

Please note the following schedule:

  • Wednesday, November 4: No School – State Volleyball
  • Thursday, November 5: Regular School Day
  • Friday, November 6: No School – Previously Scheduled Staff Development Day

Report Cards & Second Trimester

Report cards were emailed home last week. If you have any questions or did not receive your child’s report card attachment, please contact the office at 308-385-6352.

Please join us in welcoming Ms. Emily Broadwell on Monday, November 9, as we begin our second trimester. Ms. Broadwell will be teaching Art. Sixth grade students will have Health during the second trimester. We also want to thank Mrs. Brown for a great first trimester of Spanish!

Veterans Day Program

1R will hold its Veterans Day program on Wednesday, November 11, from 12:45–1:15 p.m. in the 1R gym. Please remember that, due to limited space, this event is open to 1R veterans and the family members they invite through their 1R student. We look forward to celebrating and honoring those who have served our country.

SAFETY REMINDER – Morning Drop-Off & After-School Pick-Up

One R Road north of the school has heavy traffic flow, especially during arrival and dismissal. Please remain in the northbound lane until you enter 1R property. DO NOT pass stopped traffic. Westbound traffic may not be familiar with our school traffic patterns and may not anticipate vehicles stopped on the road. Please also avoid turning in a way that blocks westbound traffic. Wait until you can safely pull onto school property.

A reminder for after-school pick-up: If your child is not in the parking lot when you arrive, please pull around and get back in line on One R Road. This allows traffic to continue flowing for everyone. Hopefully, your child will be waiting when you come through the second time!

Safety is our priority. Dismissal is busy for approximately 10 minutes, but if everyone follows these expectations, we can keep traffic moving as quickly and safely as possible.

The east parking lot is NOT for daily student pick-up. This area needs to remain available for buses, coaches, and parents who are entering or leaving the building. Thank you for following these expectations. We greatly appreciate your cooperation!

WINTER REMINDER – RECESS

We will continue to go outside for recess as much as possible. Please make sure your children are dressed appropriately as the weather changes. Coats, hats, mittens, and gloves are important!

If there is snow on the playground, students must have snow pants and boots to play in it. Otherwise, they will need to remain on the concrete areas. Students should bring a separate pair of boots for outdoor recess unless they are wearing rubber or water-resistant shoes.

Please label coats, hats, gloves, boots, and other personal items with your child’s name or initials. We always seem to accumulate a large lost-and-found collection as the weather gets colder!

WEATHER CLOSINGS & SCHOOL COMMUNICATION

We will utilize Bright Arrow as our mass communication system for weather-related school closings and other important announcements. Please make sure your contact information is current in PowerSchool so you receive important school and district communications.

Announcements will also be shared through KOLN/KGIN 10/11 (Lincoln), KSNB Local 4, KHGI Channel 13, KRGI Radio, and Northwest social media accounts.

Middle School Winter Sports

The middle school winter sports season is off and running! A reminder that ALL girls’ home basketball practices and games are held at Cedar Hollow. Please continue to check the 1R calendar and follow coaches’ updates for schedules. There may be changes as the season gets underway. We wish all of our winter sports teams the best of luck!
